Customizing your Facebook PageMike Krisel |
Facebook has become an increasingly popular way to help promote your business or group for not a lot of money. You can register for a facebook account in a short time and create your personal page as well as a company or fan page. After you create your personal page, click on create a group or business page and you can start creating something that looks like our facebook page.
One of the limitations to these free pages is, you're stuck using their design and layout structure. There are some applications out there that will let you add a tab and create a custom content area. One of the best ones I've found is is an application called static FBML. With this nifty little application, you can create custom boxes and pages to help add a little bit more style and features to your site.
How might one set this up? First you have to be logged in or create an account if you don't have one already. When you're on your home page, you should go into 'edit page' and then scroll to the bottom and look for a link called 'more applications'. On the next page, do a search for 'static FBML' and then add it to your page. Please not, static FBML only works on fan pages, so using it on your personal facebook page won't work. I know, it's a sad thing.
You do have to know some basic HTML to really use this application. After you've added the application, go into 'edit page' and you should see the little 'FBML' box, click on 'edit' and start inserting some text and HTML. One of the nice things about this, is it also allows you to rename the tab. So, you could call it 'welcome' or 'about us'. After you've created the page, you'll notice something different on your profile view, you might notice a little tab called boxes. Click on that tab and add the box to your side bar, You now have a customized side bar in addition to your custom page. Pretty cool, huh?
If you have any questions about this, or want to see some example pages, please feel free to email me with your questions to mk@efellemedia.com.
